We challenging the status quo: We believe it's time for a new approach to investing.
Investment is not an objective in itself – it should have a positive impact on the lives and goals of investors. We think that in the 21st century, no one in Austria should have to compromise on transparency, fees, or flexibility, or invest in products that don’t align with their goals.
We want to do it better. It's time for a new kind of wealth management.
That's why we offer an independent investment service for anyone who wants to invest their money wisely, to build and preserve wealth.
What does "wise" mean?
froots was founded in 2020 by David Mayer-Heinisch and Dirk van Wassenaer with Andreas Treichl, the former CEO of ERSTE Group, as the seed-investor. The company currently employs more than 20 people. Find out more about froots' mission here.
Based on your goals, your money is invested in equity and bond ETFs, as well as ETCs, and reallocated considering market developments and your investment horizon. This way, you can benefit from the attractive opportunities in the financial markets without taking on unnecessary risks.
For more information about our approach and investment strategy, you can find our white-paper here.
In your froots portfolio, there are indeed ETFs, but that’s where the similarity to a typical ETF savings plan, such as those set up via an online broker, ends.
At froots, your portfolio is actively managed according to your specific requirements.
We use an active/passive approach for the portfolio composition. This means we combine the best of both worlds.
“Active” because we select the products we invest in for you based on our proven investment strategy and then actively weight your portfolio to ensure you take on no unnecessary risks.
For example, we adjust the asset allocation based on your remaining investment horizon. The closer you get to your investment goal, the more we adjust your portfolio to include less volatile assets.
However, the products we select are always passive. We use ETFs to invest in the financial markets in a diversified and cost-effective manner. Along with bonds and stocks, we also invest in commodities such as gold. The decision of when to invest in which products is systematic, ensuring that we eliminate the risk of human error.
As a wealth management service, we also offer personal advice, and you can always reach out to us. We’re available both online and at our office in Vienna.
Security is everything, especially when it comes to money. There are two important dimensions to consider:
1) The development of your investments, and 2) what happens if Froots or our partner bank no longer exists.
1) Investments in assets come with opportunities, but also risks, such as market fluctuations. With our proven investment strategy, we aim to achieve attractive returns and a risk/reward profile that aligns with your individual preferences. Feel free to schedule a personal consultation to discuss this further.
For further information on the risks of capital investments, please consult this page.
2) In the unlikely event that something were to happen to froots, you would only lose your portfolio manager. Your savings are held in your name at our Austrian partner bank, Schelhammer Capital Bank.
You can access or close your account at any time. Even in the unlikely event that our partner bank were to go bankrupt, your securities account would be treated as segregated assets and therefore not part of the bank’s balance sheet. You are always the owner. Learn more about security at froots here.
We are an independent wealth manager, not a bank.
This means that your portfolio is not held directly by us, but by our partner bank, Schelhammer Capital Bank, and is only managed by us.
We believe that in the 21st century, no one should have to compromise when it comes to investing. Unlike some banks, froots offers you these advantages:
Full Independence: Our investment approach eliminates conflicts of interest. We don’t include expensive in-house products in your portfolio, only products that stand out in an objective selection process. Learn more here.
Tailored Solutions with Personal Service: Typically, bespoke solutions and personal service are only available in private banking and are accessible only to very wealthy individuals. With froots, you can have your money managed in a way that fits your life, without high entry barriers.
Full Flexibility - No Binding Commitments: You’re never locked in with froots. You can make deposits or withdrawals at any time, without transaction fees, or adjust your investment strategy to reflect new priorities in your life (e.g., buying a house, having children, parental leave, inheritance, or gifts).
Full Transparency: In your client portal, you can always see how we’re managing your investments and what fees apply. We have nothing to hide when it comes to our terms. Learn more here.
We charge a single all-in fee ranging from 0.7% to a maximum of 1% per year, billed quarterly, which covers all services from account management to portfolio management and transactions.
Additionally, only the product costs of the selected ETFs and ETCs need to be considered (on average about 0.14% per year), as well as the capital gains tax, which is automatically deducted.
We have nothing to hide when it comes to our terms: Here, you can find a transparent overview and FAQs.
Cheaper, yes, if you don't consider opportunity costs—and by that, we don't just mean the costs of emotional investment mistakes, but also your time and the potential stress during volatile market periods.
Our view is this:
You should manage your portfolio yourself if you feel competent enough and have a passion for continuously monitoring the capital markets and making investment decisions, even amid uncertainty.
For everyone who doesn't fit this description, it makes sense to use an investment service. We are convinced that froots is the most attractive choice for this in Austria.
With froots, you'l never lose full flexibility.
You can access your money at any time and withdraw it from your account fee-free within a few days.
You can also close your account with us at any time, free of charge.
If you have a monthly savings plan, you can easily adjust or pause it whenever it suits you.
With just a few clicks, you can create additional accounts (e.g., for your children) or adjust the investment horizon of your accounts, ensuring that your investments always align with your financial plans. If you have any questions, we're always here to help.
Yes, the capital gains tax is automatically deducted for Austrian tax residents.
froots is ideal for anyone looking to reassess and optimize their current investment situation.

Of course. When it comes to investing, one should avoid impulsive decisions. Our goal is to ensure you have enough information to make a well-informed decision that you feel comfortable with—not only at the moment of the decision but throughout the entire time your money is invested.
In a personal consultation, we’ll address your questions and, if you're interested, create a tailored investment strategy for you.
Feel free to schedule an appointment with us. It can take place online or at our office in Vienna, located near Stephansplatz on Rauhensteingasse.
