We challenging the status quo: We believe it's time for a new approach to investing.
Investment is not an objective in itself – it should have a positive impact on the lives and goals of investors. We think that in the 21st century, no one in Austria should have to compromise on transparency, fees, or flexibility, or invest in products that don’t align with their goals.
We want to do it better. It's time for a new kind of wealth management.
That's why we offer an independent investment service for anyone who wants to invest their money wisely, to build and preserve wealth.
What does "wise" mean?
froots was founded in 2020 by David Mayer-Heinisch and Dirk van Wassenaer with Andreas Treichl, the former CEO of ERSTE Group, as the seed-investor. The company currently employs more than 20 people. Find out more about froots' mission here.
froots offers investment solutions tailored to different financial objectives, such as mid- to long-term wealth building and short-term liquidity optimization.
Your money is invested in equity and bond ETFs, as well as ETCs, and dynamically rebalanced based on market developments and your investment horizon. This allows you to benefit from market opportunities while avoiding unnecessary risks.
Security is everything, especially when it comes to money. There are two important dimensions to consider:
1) The development of your investments, and 2) what happens if Froots or our partner bank no longer exists.
1) Investments in assets come with opportunities, but also risks, such as market fluctuations. With our proven investment strategy, we aim to achieve attractive returns and a risk/reward profile that aligns with your individual preferences. Feel free to schedule a personal consultation to discuss this further.
For further information on the risks of capital investments, please consult this page.
2) In the unlikely event that something were to happen to froots, you would only lose your portfolio manager. Your savings are held in your name at our Austrian partner bank, Schelhammer Capital Bank.
You can access or close your account at any time. Even in the unlikely event that our partner bank were to go bankrupt, your securities account would be treated as segregated assets and therefore not part of the bank’s balance sheet. You are always the owner. Learn more about security at froots here.
We are an independent wealth manager, not a bank.
This means that your portfolio is not held directly by us, but by our partner bank, Schelhammer Capital Bank, and is only managed by us.
We believe that in the 21st century, no one should have to compromise when it comes to investing. Unlike some banks, froots offers you these advantages:
Full Independence: Our investment approach eliminates conflicts of interest. We don’t include expensive in-house products in your portfolio, only products that stand out in an objective selection process. Learn more here.
Tailored Solutions with Personal Service: Typically, bespoke solutions and personal service are only available in private banking and are accessible only to very wealthy individuals. With froots, you can have your money managed in a way that fits your life, without high entry barriers.
Full Flexibility - No Binding Commitments: You’re never locked in with froots. You can make deposits or withdrawals at any time, without transaction fees, or adjust your investment strategy to reflect new priorities in your life (e.g., buying a house, having children, parental leave, inheritance, or gifts).
Full Transparency: In your client portal, you can always see how we’re managing your investments and what fees apply. We have nothing to hide when it comes to our terms. Learn more here.
No, froots is not an online broker—it is a wealth management service.
This means that, unlike a broker, you don’t have to make investment decisions yourself. Instead, you entrust froots to manage your portfolio for you.
Through your froots client portal, you can transparently track all transactions and see your current portfolio allocation at any time.
Yes, froots allows you to invest through a savings plan with ETFs.
However, our approach is different from traditional ETF savings plans offered by online brokers. We provide a more advanced and diversified strategy, often including bond ETFs and gold, in addition to equity ETFs.
We charge a single all-in fee ranging from 0.7% to a maximum of 1% per year, billed quarterly, which covers all services from account management to portfolio management and transactions.
Additionally, only the product costs of the selected ETFs and ETCs need to be considered (on average about 0.14% per year), as well as the capital gains tax, which is automatically deducted.
We have nothing to hide when it comes to our terms: Here, you can find a transparent overview and FAQs.
Cheaper, yes, if you don't consider opportunity costs—and by that, we don't just mean the costs of emotional investment mistakes, but also your time and the potential stress during volatile market periods.
Our view is this:
You should manage your portfolio yourself if you feel competent enough and have a passion for continuously monitoring the capital markets and making investment decisions, even amid uncertainty.
For everyone who doesn't fit this description, it makes sense to use an investment service. We are convinced that froots is the most attractive choice for this in Austria.
With froots, you'l never lose full flexibility.
You can access your money at any time and withdraw it from your account fee-free within a few days.
You can also close your account with us at any time, free of charge.
If you have a monthly savings plan, you can easily adjust or pause it whenever it suits you.
With just a few clicks, you can create additional accounts (e.g., for your children) or adjust the investment horizon of your accounts, ensuring that your investments always align with your financial plans. If you have any questions, we're always here to help.
Yes, the capital gains tax is automatically deducted for Austrian tax residents.
People currently investing through banks, mutual funds, or financial advisors who realize that their recommended investments don’t align with their goals—or that the fees are too high.
Self-directed investors using online brokers who feel uncertain, lack time, motivation, or expertise to make informed investment decisions, especially in volatile markets.
Anyone feeling guilty about leaving money in a low-interest savings account and looking for a smart, structured investment solution to put their money to work.
DIY investors who prefer to manage their portfolios independently via an online broker and are comfortable handling product selection, diversification, and risk management themselves.
Minors under 18 years old (However, parents can open an account and transfer it when the child reaches adulthood).
Individuals still building their financial safety net – We recommend saving at least three months' worth of expenses as a cash reserve before starting to invest.
